How the Jessel Gallery Got Started
The Jessel Gallery, the oldest and largest gallery in the Napa Valley, was founded by renowned artist/author Jessel Miller in 1984 in a small space within the former Hedgeside Whiskey Distillery. The gallery is now home to 40+ artists including Erin Dertner, Susan Hoehn, Daniel Mundy, Alan Sanborn, Olaf Schneider, Beverly Wilson, and Marta Collings to name just a few. Today, the gallery fills the entire 6,500-square-foot, 10-room building! Jessel Gallery has gained popularity as a destination offering top-quality art in a variety of forms with a full spectrum of price points that make it attainable for all budget levels.
With a wide variety of offerings, Jessel Gallery invites guests to meet the artist, relax and take their time as they browse through gorgeous art, unusual gifts, books written/illustrated by Jessel, fine crafts, garden sculpture, and new and hand-made clothing. One room is dedicated to Fine Jewelry Artists. Quality framing as well as giclee prints of many of the artists are available. You will be enchanted by the wonderful mix of long-established contributing artists as well as new, emerging and guest artists.
Exquisite gardens and a lovely deck welcome guests to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful surroundings! Kids and pets are welcome!
Classes, Shows, Open Studios and More at Jessel Gallery
Those looking to tap into their inner creativity are invited to join one of the many ongoing, weekly classes in watercolor and acrylics. The Gallery offers private classes for groups, celebrations or gatherings.
Join Jessel Miller on Wednesday or Friday Morning from 10:00am to 2:00pm for her amazing acrylic class. Beginners are welcome and Jessel will provide the supplies necessary for the class. The cost is $75.00 drop-in. RSVP and this is a POTLUCK event. Diane Pope offers Watercolor classes with a schedule of classes announced on the website.
Jessel Miller will offer beginning watercolor classes as five-week sessions each Thursday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. The first session starts in February. In this class, learn about which materials to use, watercolor vocabulary, color mixing and a variety of techniques to help build confidence in this fun, exciting medium. The cost is $275 including supplies (if needed) for a few classes, supply lists and handouts.
Diane Pope’s summer classes at Jessel Gallery will be all about you: What do you want to learn? What do you want to paint? You can bring something you are currently working on, something new or would like to paint again. Come with questions and ideas about what you would like to learn. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.; Thursday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 20: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 22: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Space is limited so RSVP to Diane Pope at spinpope@sbcglobal.net or 707-483-4926. If you are a beginner and need to borrow supplies, let her know when you sign up. Jessel Miller will lead an acrylic class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Friday Aug. 2, it’s mountains drifting off into the distance; Wednesday and Friday, Aug. 7 and 9, goats and sheep; Friday, Aug. 16, interiors in naive or folk style; Wednesday and Friday, Aug. 21 and 23, boats on water with reflections and on Friday, Aug. 30, it’s barns close up with correct perspective.
