Wines from Georgia at Outer Space
Taste a dozen wines from Georgia (Sakartvelo) at Outer Space on Friday, March 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. Georgia is a country the size of New Jersey with 8,000 years of winemaking tradition, and geographic and traditional diversity. Separated from Russia in the north by the Caucasus Mountains, from Europe in the west by the Black Sea and bordering Turkey to the southwest (with Iran less than 100 miles away), this tiny nation has much to offer from a food and wine standpoint. Its traditional wines are often made in clay amphora, called qvevri, buried underground. Many are made with extended skin contact, even the whites, which they call amber wines. The cost is $40.
