The Great Caruso at Jarvis

Jarvis Conservatory presents The Great Caruso on Saturday, June 14, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.  The Oscar-nominated classic 1951 film starring Mario Lanza and Ann Blyth explores the life of Italian tenor Enrico Caruso, a European opera star who faced rejection from the social elite and struggled to find acceptance in New York. Enrico Caruso’s (Mario Lanza) only passion was to sing. For that, he left his hometown of Naples, Italy, and traveled to America to sing for the Metropolitan Opera.  At first his lack of education and poor background made him an outcast in the highclass opera world. Eventually, his amazing voice won him both fans and the hand of his love, Dorothy (Ann Blyth), but his nonstop pace and desire to perform eventually took their toll on the singer’s health. Tickets are $15.
