Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra at Blue Note
Blue Note presents Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra on Friday, Feb. 23, at 6:30 and 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 and 9 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 25, at 3 and 6:30 p.m. Liebert is a German guitarist, songwriter and producer best known for his Spanish-influenced music. He describes his musical style as “Nouveau Flamenco” but although there are flamenco elements to his music, it is nothing like traditional flamenco. Based on melody and using much simpler forms, this music couldn’t be considered jazz, rock or classical; he felt that flamenco was the closest word that people could identify with. A five-time Grammy Award nominee, Liebert has received 38 Gold and Platinum certifications in the United States and in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. His debut album Nouveau Flamenco (1990) was certified platinum in the U.S. Blue Note, 1030 Main St., Napa, www.bluenotejazz.com/napa
