Napa Valley Chamber Orchestra
The Napa Valley Chamber Orchestra will perform its first concert of the 2024-2025 season at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Crosswalk Community Church in Napa. Ann Krinitsky will conduct the free concert featuring Jim Terry of the Terry Family Band performing his original folk-inspired song “Fire in the Wind.” Jim Terry – Tim Carl Photo “Fire in the Wind” has been arranged for chamber orchestra and vocal soloist by Rob Wright, a local musician who is the orchestra’s principal double bass player. “Fire in the Wind” is a poignant and moving account of Terry’s experience in the 2017 Atlas Fire, which ravaged the mountains near his home. In 2018, the song was chosen “Song of the Year” by the Napa chapter of the West Coast Songwriters Association. The piece headlines a program of international folk music, including Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore,” the Frank Bridge “Suite for Strings” and Peggy Stuart Coolidge’s “Pioneer Dances” as well as folk and folk-inspired pieces from Ireland, Scotland and England. The orchestra will also have a concert on Sunday, Nov. 17 with cello soloist Isaac PastorChermak and concertmaster Maxim Baluyev. Visit www.napavalleychamberorchestra.com for more information.
