Live performances of Four Lost Santas and Amahl and the Night Visitors at Jarvis
Jarvis Conservatory will host Light Opera Theater of Sacramento for two performances of Four Lost Santas and Amahl and the Night Visitors on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. These short operas composed for the season are perfect for families and all music and theater lovers. Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian-Carlo Menotti, was originally commissioned for NBC television. From its Dec. 1951 premiere, it became a Christmastime tradition for many years, rebroadcast and revived in new productions. The work became a favorite in live performances around the world. Menotti wrote the text and music, telling the story of Amahl, a poor shepherd boy in the Holy Land, as he and his mother provide hospitality to unexpected, fabulous visitors: the three wise men, kings following a glorious star. It is a transformative visit, full of warmth and humor with beautiful music. Four Lost Santas is a new work commissioned by Orlando Opera in its West Coast premiere. It tells the comic story of a quartet on their journey to a Santa Claus Convention, their car breakdown and a mother and son hurrying on their way to perform in Amahl. For tickets click here.
