JaM Cellars Presents Iris DeMent at the Uptown

JaM Cellars presents songwriter and singer Iris DeMent at the Uptown on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m. DeMent’s first song, “Our Town,” established herself in the folk/country idiom. Her debut record Infamous Angel, which just celebrated its 30th anniversary, was named one of the “greatest country albums of all time” by Rolling Stone, though I’d call it Americana rather than country. The two albums that followed, My Life and The Way I Should, were both nominated for Grammys.  She’s a masterful songwriter with a quirky voice that fits her songs perfectly. She has been compared to the late John Prine for her writing and performing; she sang superb duets with him. DeMent’s songs have also been featured in film (True Grit) and television (The Leftovers and Northen Exposure) and recorded by numerous artists.
