It’s a Grand Night for Singing at Jarvis
Jarvis Conservatory presents Its a Grand Night for Singing on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. Four sopranos, each returning to the Jarvis stage, will celebrate autumn with favorite arias and less familiar gems, and a guest cellist will join the concert. Two duets, one by Mendelssohn and one by Robert Schumann, are “Herbstlieds” (autumn-songs). These, and a comic duet from Mozart’s Così fan tutte, will be sung by Cris Walker (Durand) and Larissa Lorenz. Walker will offer three songs by Aaron Copland setting poems of Emily Dickinson to music. Lorenz will sing “Baïlèro,” from the Chants d’Auvergne by Joseph Canteloube. The other two singers will focus on operatic arias. Elizabeth Patterson will perform a set from Mozart’s opera seria Idomeneo; Gluck’s, Orfeo ed Euridice and Britten’s 1954 setting of Henry James’ Gothic horror story, Turn of the Screw. Carlet Langford will sing arias from Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Massenet’s Hérodiade and “Und ob die Wolke” from Weber’s Der Freischütz with a solo by cellist Tevyanastazie Emoedi. Cellist Emoedi will also perform Schumann’s Fantasiestücke . Tickets are $20 at the box office beginning at 6 p.m. jarvisconservatory.com Jarvis Conservatory, 1711 Main St., Napa
