It’s a Grand Night For Singing at Jarvis
Jarvis Conservatory presents “It’s a Grand Night For Singing” on Saturday, June 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. Returning will be soprano Carley Neill. Joining her will be Bay Area tenor Robert Vann, soprano Karlie Saenz and baritone Martin Lehman. Every number comes from a theatrical show and will be sung in English. This includes songs from the 19th century comic masterpieces of Gilbert and Sullivan, The Mikado, Ruddigore and The Gondoliers. This offering is a preview and celebration of the August production of Ruddigore by the Light Opera Theatre of Sacramento. Some tickets will be included in a raffle. Balancing the program will be selections from 20th century musicals, Show Boat; Kiss Me, Kate; Kismet; The Music Man; Chess and The Secret Garden. For highbrows, the singers will also perform an aria from American composer Samuel Barber’s opera, Vanessa, and a quartet from Friedrich von Flotow’s opera, Martha. In addition, conductor and musician Peter Susskind, who was educated at Cambridge and the Royal College of Music, will offer his entertaining wisdom and wit. Tickets are $20 at the box office starting at 6 p.m. or you may buy your tickets early online. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m. Jarvis Conservatory, 1711 Main St., Napa, www.jarvisconservatory.com, 707-255-5445
