It’s a Grand Night for Singing at Jarvis
It’s a Grand Night for Singing returns to Jarvis Conservatory on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. The season of thankfulness is upon us, and the concert will be an abundant feast to fill you with gratitude. Seven singers and a guest pianist will be featured in a program overflowing with joy, thoughtfulness and love. The centerpiece of this program will be a rare performance of Johannes Brahms’ complete Neue Liebeslieder, op. 65. Singers Marcelle Dronkers, Meghan Dibble, Troy Turriate and Phil Buonadonna and guest pianist Bryan Baker will join with music director and host, Frank Johnson, for this piece. The work, a cycle of songs for solo and ensemble voices and four-hand piano, explores aspects of love in poetic expressions drawn, originally, from many cultures — all of this in varieties of waltz time. The concert will frame this piece with songs ranging from Mozart and Verdi to modern classics by Morten Lauridsen, with songs from shows like Man of la Mancha and Godspell by composers such as Harold Arlen, Stephen Sondheim, Cy Coleman and Stephen Schwartz. Singers Katie Lipka, Michèle Voillequé, and Rod Lowe will also perform. Tickets are $20 at www.jarvisconservatory.com or the box office. Jarvis Conservatory, 1711 Main St., Napa
