Independent Bookstore Day at Napa Bookmine
Saturday, April 27, is Independent Bookstore Day at Napa Bookmine. Both the Bookstore and Café will open at 8 a.m. The day will be filled with giveaways, guests and activities plus 10% of sales for the day will go to Cope Family Center. Then there’s the Spot the Canary scavenger hunt: Five yellow canaries will be hidden in the store. The first five customers to bring them up to the register when they buy a new book will win a $25 gift card to Napa Bookmine. They will also have a blue canary hidden. If you find him, you get a Napa Bookmine sticker. Faith from Folklore record store will sell records. It’s also National Poetry Month so Bookmine hosts area poets for Poetry on Demand. Stop by between 1 and 3 p.m. and local poets led by poet and writing instructor Iris Dunkle will write you a poem with passion and panache. They are partnering with Napa County Animal Shelter and Ripple Effect Animal Project for the day. They will be there from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to join the festivities. Because what’s better than curling up with a good book and your favorite fur friend? Nothing. Come to the store to meet adoptable animals, fall in love and learn about fostering, volunteering and other ways you can help animals find their forever homes. The café will offer a new tangy drink: Love in the Time of Citrus — blood orange tea, lemonade and passion fruit syrup. Get adorable free items when you buy the new Bubbly Beautiful Kitty-Corn by Shannon Hale – unicorn horns, bubbles, glitter and more while supplies last. Snag special items from authors and publishers before they sell out. Napa Bookmine, 1675 Second St., www.napabookmine.com, 707-733-3199
