Gerald Albright at the Blue Note
The Blue Note presents Gerald Albright on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 and 9 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 19, at 3 and 6:30 p.m. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Albright was an accomplished saxophonist by the time he enrolled at the University of Redlands, but he switched to bass after he saw Louis Johnson in concert. After graduating, he joined jazz pianist/R&B singer Patrice Rushen, who was forming her own band. Later, when the bassist left in the middle of a tour, Albright replaced him and finished the tour on bass guitar. Playing both sax and bass, he became a session and touring musician in the ‘80s. He launched his solo career with Just Between Us in 1987. Blue Note, 1030 Main St., Napa, www.bluenotejazz.com/napa
