Cadet Wine and Beer Bar welcomes Cervantes Family Vineyards and Ellman Winery to Wine Wednesday on Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. Proprietor Xavier Cervantes, his wife Cecilie and their three children, Jeronimo (Jero), Ana and Ximena are from Mexico City and have always had a love of food and wine. When setting out to make his wine, he discovered a 1,100-acre ranch in Pope Valley. The Cervantes family changed the name of the property to Hine Ranch; this word in old English means “farm manager” and “hine” also refers to all the deer that live on site. The property is now home to 90 acres of vineyards, primarily planted to Cabernet Sauvignon but also to Tempranillo and Sauvignon Blanc. With the help of family friend and winemaker Andy Erickson, they produce small-lot, allocation-only wines. • 2022 Palomino/Sauvignon Blanc • 2019 Blacktail Red Blend Ellman Family Vineyards was established in 2007. Today, all the wines come from the estate vineyard. As winemaker for Ellman, Andy Erickson works with his team including Patrick Nyeholt and Ansel Risch. • 2019 Brother’s Blend • 2019 Jemma Cabernet Sauvignon Cadet Wine + Beer Bar, 930 Franklin St., Napa, www.cadetbar.com
