Acumen wines highlight the finest qualities of Old World and New World, with notable fruit character balanced with crisp acidity and firm tannins for long-term aging. The focus is on Cabernet Sauvignon from our estate vineyards, and our top wines are in the Peak tier. The Acumen Peak wines are 100% estate grown, produced in limited quantities. Acumen also makes a Peak Sauvignon Blanc. In addition, Acumen offers a Mountainside tier of wines made to be complex yet approachable at a younger age.

Acumen’s two vineyards, named Attelas and Edcora, total 116 acres, and are in Foss Valley, an elevated “hanging” valley surrounding Atlas Peak. Thanks to their 1,300-1,600 feet elevation, they are above the fog line and are positioned at the southernmost edge of the volcanic red soils of the Vaca mountain range, which catch moderating breezes from San Pablo Bay to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west, funneled through narrow canyons ending at Atlas Peak. The valley below can be immersed in fog until mid-morning or later during the growing season, but Attelas and Edcora wake up to blue skies and a long day of sunshine. Volcanic soils, an ideal high elevation climate, long growing season and expert farming allow Acumen to produce wines of ideal ripeness, depth, complexity and phenolic concentration. Skilled farming for earlier ripening means lower alcohol levels, yet fully mature flavors, which Acumen believes is the crowning achievement of its Atlas Peak vineyards. Both Attelas and Edcora are organically farmed.

Our Wine Gallery opened in May and was designed by Vincent Xeus, internationally acclaimed visual artist and founding principal of Marque Design & Architecture in collaboration with the Acumen team.
